Waist-high optical lanes, mechanical tripods and full-height units deter or control passage differently. Define whether the objective is counting, discouraging casual tailgating or physically restricting entry.
Bags, mobility devices, deliveries and groups of visitors change lane behavior. Include those cases in a practical mock-up or demonstration.
The surrounding construction is material
Power and data pathways, floor anchoring, guard desks, barriers and architectural finishes can exceed the visible electronics effort. A site survey should locate underfloor services and required clearances.
Document behavior on power loss, fire alarm, evacuation and manual release. Qualified life-safety review is essential.

Survey and design, tax, freight, permits, union or prevailing-wage labor, electrical work, network upgrades, cellular service, lifts, trenching, fire-stopping, wall repair, training, data migration, false-alarm fees and future price increases may be excluded. If arrival demand exceeds lane processing capacity, queues can cause unsafe crowding or doors being propped open. Test throughput with the intended credential and visitor workflow.
First-year ownership = upfront equipment + installation + activation + 12 months of recurring charges + known year-one maintenance. Three-year ownership uses 36 months and adds known renewal, replacement or cancellation costs. It does not predict price increases unless the contract supplies them.

Can the accessible gate be separate?
It must meet applicable accessibility and operational requirements without creating an inferior or insecure process.
Are turnstiles suitable for every lobby?
No. Egress, fire, accessibility, staffing and architecture may make another control approach more appropriate.
